The Dress Code at RTCA

The dress code plays a significant role in the Reid Temple Christian Academy School community. It fosters a sense of unity and equality among students and underscores our shared experiences as members of this school. Additionally, it promotes a dignified and straightforward campus atmosphere, while also reflecting our respect for the RTCA  community.

Uniform and Dress Code Policy

One of the key principles of the Reid Temple Christian Academy experience is respect – respect toward learning, toward each other, and to one’s self. As an extension of this principle, we ask that students and adults come to school dressed in a respectful manner. In other words, we respect our school community by appearing ‘neat and appropriate.’ All students must wear their Academy uniform every day and physical education uniform on the days of all scheduled physical education classes.  We ask that students appear neat and appropriately dressed while on campus. In this regard, shirts should be tucked in, belts should be properly worn when needed, undergarments must not be visible (pants not worn baggy), and outdoor or oversized clothing should not be worn inside the school.

Hair

  • Hair must be groomed neatly.

  • If wearing braids or locks, it must be neat.

  • No hair dye that is not natural, i.e. pink, purple, red, etc.

  • No hat or scarves.

  • Girls can wear the RTCA plaid hair band, burgundy, gray, or black.  No brightly colored, animal print, or floral prints allowed.

Jewelry and Body adornment

  • No tattoos or body piercings.

  • Earrings must be studs or small loops (no larger than a quarter); No dangling earrings allowed; ear piercings to not exceed 2 in each ear lobe

  • No earrings or piercing for boys.

  • No heavy makeup. Lip gloss and soft eyeliner acceptable for Middle School girls only.

General Requirements

  • No ripped or distressed denim that exposes skin.

  • For young ladies, shorts and skirts must be mid-thigh length or longer.

  • Crop or halter tops are not allowed.

  • For young ladies, shorts under your skirts are highly encouraged to provide more freedom for students on the playground.

  • Preschool and Kindergarten students, sneakers and socks each day.  No heels or sandals.

  • For students Grade 1- 8, uniform shoes or rubber sole shoes with dress uniforms.  Sneakers (white, black, gray) can be worn on P.E. days with a minimum other color present.

  • Official Academy sweaters should be used for students who may get chilly in the classroom.

2026 New Uniform Guidelines and Grandfathering Policy:

  • Uniform adjustments have been made for all Preschool and Kindergarten scholars.

  • P.E. uniforms have been adjusted for all Kindergarten-8th Grade scholars.

  • To support a smooth transition to the updated school uniform requirements, Reid Temple Christian Academy will implement a two-year grandfathering period. Current students may continue to wear approved existing uniform items during the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 school years. During this transition period, families are encouraged to gradually replace older uniform pieces with the newly approved uniform items. Beginning with the 2028–2029 school year, all scholars will be required to wear the updated RTCA uniform in accordance with the school's official uniform policy. At that time, previously approved uniform items that do not meet the updated requirements will no longer be permitted. RTCA appreciates the partnership and support of our families as we work together to ensure a consistent and professional appearance for all scholars.
